Takoyaki

Takoyaki is a famous Japanese street food that originated in Osaka around 1935, later spreading throughout south-central Japan and beyond. It is commonly sold by street vendors, supermarkets, and restaurants across the country. As a specialty of Osaka, takoyaki is one of Japan’s most popular street foods, alongside okonomiyaki. The word “tako” means octopus and “yaki” means grilled or fried. Takoyaki are round, bite-sized snacks made from a wheat-based batter, typically filled with diced octopus and topped with takoyaki sauce, Japanese mayo, and bonito flakes.
